He was there on my news feed and he was pissed. About what, I had no idea. But this very determined young man, who was screaming about something or another, was carrying a sign that clearly read,
“AMERICA NEEDS TO GET BACK TO NORMAL!!”
I didn’t click on it. He could have been protesting daylight for all I knew, but it got me to thinking.
Normal?
That’s a joke, right.
Very few people can agree on much of anything these days. Their opinions on subjects are as varied as cloud formations floating on high and when there is conflict on what “normal” actually represents, well, people lose their happy little minds. Their intense reactions are launched from a place of heavy duty emotion and will be defended at any cost. But, it’s not ALL bad.
Think on it. If we didn’t have this huge emotional difference in the understanding of normal, this personal idea that something is wrong and it ought to be fixed right freaking now, well, we’d still be gnawing stained bones beside the tribal fire pits, complaining all the while of an upset stomach caused by the raw meat. But it got fixed. A little moaning and complaining surely brought about the creation of the barbecue grill.
We are simply human, so very different in so many ways. We are given to disagree and strive for the difference in the norms of our expectations. Normal describes the average of all differences. It is the good thing when it improves the wellbeing of our world. And sadly, it’s the bad thing when it drives everyone apart.
But hey, That’s normal.
